1981-

Florida State traveled to South Bend, Indiana to face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish for the first time in the two school’s history.  It was a 3-3 tie at half time before the two offenses began finding some movement.  Florida State was led by the duo of Ricky Williams (15-135) and Michael Whiting (15-71) in the win over Notre Dame 19-13. Current Middle Tennessee State University Head Coach, Rick Stockstill, was the quarterback for Florida State this day and was 11-of-27 for 100 yards. 

 

1959-

FSU traveled to Blacksburg, Virginia - defeating the Hokies in front of 15,000 fans in a defensive battle - or offensive struggle - have your pick, 7-6. Both teams went scoreless through the first three quarters – and it was FSU, on a Roy Bickford pass to Don Hinson. Virginia Tech would score with just over two minutes to go and elected to go for two.  It failed, and FSU won the game.
